Serigraph Poster, Chico Series, Almonds

Jake Early’s graphic design work and printmaking have earned him much publicity and attention in the art world. A California native, Early produces unique serigraphs on the printing press he designed and built in his Chico studio.
His simple illustrative style, bold color palette, and strong depiction of place all resonate with collectors. Early’s trademark is his use of metallic inks, created by mixing powdered metals into a clear ink base. These inks capture and reflect natural light, shifting the mood of each print as lighting conditions change.

Early’s latest series, “California Highway 1”, is made up of 20 original works depicting California’s remarkable Pacific coastline, stretching from the Oregon border to the Mexican frontier.

Jake is also the artist who designed the Chico Palio logo.

These new images mark a transition in Early’s work. Each print is larger in focus and size, and incorporates as many as 12 colors per image. Early’s new series is influenced by the craftsmanship and artistry of hand printed serigraphs from the 1930’s & 40’s.
Early’s original serigraphs are available exclusively at Chico Paper Company, located at 4th St. and Broadway, in downtown Chico, (530) 891-0900.

Early is a graduate of the graphic design program at California State University, Chico and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Seville, Spain. Along with his work as a printmaker, Early is also an accomplished graphic designer and illustrator. His clients include: Documentum, EMC2, The Naples Coalition, Butte Creek Brewing Co., Drishti Yoga Essentials, 72k, Enloe Medical Center, Rie Coffee, Greenline Cycles, Heinemann/Boyton Cook Publishing, RedFly Clothing, Bedrock Skate & Ride and the Blue Room Theatre.
